For much of my life, my religion and spirituality were chosen for me. Anything outside of that was labeled as “evil,” leaving little room for exploration or self-trust. For 37 years, I walked through life with a quiet but constant sense of confusion, feeling as though a piece of me was missing, but I couldn’t name what it was.
With intention, I moved to Panama with my family, and that decision changed everything. There, I met the beautiful Karen. Through her, I was introduced to weekly meditation and daily affirmations. It was in those moments sitting, listening, receiving, and eventually accepting that I realized the missing piece was ME.
Though it’s still a work in progress, meditation has taught me how to sit with myself without expectation or fear. The affirmations helped me release what no longer served me and trust in what is meant for me. I learned the power of letting go and receiving, of being present, and of trusting what comes. The energy of the group, the spirit, the butterflies, is difficult to put into words. But what I can say is this: I now know I am not alone. I never have been, and I never will be. That realization replaced fear with light.
Although I am now back in the United States, I carry the respect, grounding, and benefits of both meditation and daily affirmations with me every day. No one but ME gets to choose MY path now, because I trust myself. I am deeply grateful to be reminded daily through these affirmations and continually rejuvenated through weekly meditations. This experience didn’t just support me, it’s helping me come home to myself.
